IN TIMES OF PRESSURE, STAND FIRM IN THE LORD

All Things Are Possible, Anchor of Our Lives, Stand Strong, Firm Foundation, Who Else, Worthy of It All
Have you ever felt pressured by friends, colleagues, or people around you to do something you knew was not right? What made the situation difficult, and how did you respond? You may share only what you feel comfortable sharing.
Jude 1:3-7 (read also Jude 1: 17-23)
3 Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints. 4 For certain persons have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
5 Now I desire to remind you, though you know all things once for all, that the Lord, after saving a people out of the land of Egypt, subsequently destroyed those who did not believe. 6 And angels who did not keep their own domain, but abandoned their proper abode, He has kept in eternal bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day, 7 just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them, since they in the same way as these indulged in gross immorality and went after strange flesh, are exhibited as an example in undergoing the punishment of eternal fire.
Jude 17-23
17 But you, beloved, ought to remember the words that were spoken beforehand by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, 18 that they were saying to you, “In the last time there will be mockers, following after their own ungodly lusts.” 19 These are the ones who cause divisions, worldly-minded, devoid of the Spirit. 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life. 22 And have mercy on some, who are doubting; 23 save others, snatching them out of the fire; and on some have mercy with fear, hating even the garment polluted by the flesh.
Have you ever felt pressured to compromise your faith just to fit in? In a world where standing for what is right is becoming increasingly difficult, how can we remain faithful to God?
The book of Jude reminds us that even small acts of obedience can make a major impact for God’s glory. We may feel insignificant because of our age, skills, or abilities, but what matters is not how much we can contribute. What matters is our obedience to the Lord.
Jude was a brother of Jesus who came to believe in Him after His resurrection. He later became a leader in the early church. Jude originally intended to write about the salvation believers share, but he felt compelled to warn them about people who were distorting the faith.
His message remains relevant today because we are constantly pressured to conform to the world. These pressures come from outside the church, through ungodly influences and wrong friendships, and from within the church, through hypocrisy, hurt, and false teaching. Jude urges believers to contend earnestly for the faith.
External pressures include difficult circumstances, social media, ungodly influencers, and friends who encourage us to compromise our convictions. We may begin questioning biblical truth simply because someone we admire appears happy while living contrary to God’s Word.
Internal pressures can be just as damaging. Some people know Scripture but fail to live it out. Others hurt us, leaving us disappointed and tempted to abandon our convictions. False teachers may also lead people away from biblical truth.
We must remember that people are imperfect, even within the church. Rather than allowing their failures to determine our faithfulness, we must remain grounded in God’s Word and keep our eyes on Him.
REMEMBER GOD’S JUSTICE
Jude warned that ungodly people had entered the church, distorting God’s grace and denying the authority of Jesus Christ. Knowing biblical truth is not enough if we refuse to live according to it.
How we take the grace of God for granted?
We take God’s grace for granted when we remain ungrateful, hold grudges, persist in sin, or use forgiveness as an excuse to continue doing wrong. Grace is not permission to live however we want. Through Christ, we have been rescued from sin and given new life. That transformation should change how we live.
Jude reminds believers of God’s judgment against those who rebel against Him. The pleasures of sin will never outweigh its consequences. This warning should encourage us to resist compromise, even when others seem to prosper despite doing wrong.
God’s justice also reminds us that evil will not escape His judgment. We may not see justice happen when or how we expect, but God remains the righteous Judge. Our responsibility is not to take matters into our own hands, but to stand firm in Him.
RECOGNIZE GOD’S AUTHORITY
We cannot overcome every pressure through our own strength. As Ephesians 6 teaches, our struggle is not merely against people, but against spiritual forces of evil. Our ultimate enemy is Satan, and we need God’s power and authority to stand firm.
Jude describes Michael the archangel responding to the devil by saying, “The Lord rebuke you.” If even an archangel depended on God’s authority, how much more should we?
Jesus also reminded His disciples not to rejoice primarily in their spiritual authority, but that their names were recorded in heaven. Our greatest joy is not what we can accomplish, but what Christ has done for us. Remembering His grace keeps us humble and dependent on Him.
Examples of Pride
Jude points to Cain, Balaam, and Korah as examples of rebellion and pride. Although they knew God’s truth and had witnessed His power, they chose their own desires over obedience. Their lives warn us that knowledge without humility can lead to destruction.
We must not assume we are strong enough to resist temptation on our own. Pride makes us vulnerable, but God is faithful and provides a way to endure temptation.
REMAIN IN GOD’S PRESENCE
Jude gives practical ways to stand firm: build ourselves up in the faith, pray in the Holy Spirit, remain in God’s love, and live with an eternal perspective. We must also show mercy to those who doubt and help others come to know Christ.
Prayer, God’s Word, Christian community, and disciple-making are essential to spiritual growth. We cannot expect to stand firm if we neglect our relationship with the Lord.
Jude ends with this powerful reminder: God is able to keep us from stumbling and make us stand in His glorious presence with great joy. Our confidence does not rest in our strength, but in His power.
The pressures of this world are real, and we cannot overcome them perfectly on our own. Yet God is able to sustain us until we see Jesus face to face.
So, in times of pressure, stand firm in the Lord. Remember His justice, recognize His authority, and remain in His presence. Do not take His grace for granted or allow the world’s standards to weaken your convictions. Through Jesus Christ, we can remain faithful and finish well. To Him belong all glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, now and forever. Amen.
