Genesis

Lesson 6

Book of beginnings

1-2 – Creation

3-5 – Fall of Man

Last week we discussed that we are free to choose but we are not free to choose the consequences of our decisions.

What would you like to be written in your tombstone? Think about this for a minute.

You are not ready to live until you are prepa4red to die.

What do you want God to say about your life?

Gen 6:10-4 – Whoa re the sons of God? There are 2 schools of thought

1. They were angels who did not keep their abode; or

  1. They were from the godly line of Seth.

The line of Cain and the line of Seth

Jude 6 – one theory and somehow God punished angels because they go involved with the human race.

There are some fallen angles that are not allowed to road around the earth. They are kept in eternal bonds. When the bible is not clear, don’t push these ideas.

2 Pet 2:4 – If God did not spare angels – one thinking.

The other theory says, it is not possible or angels to intermarry with people

Matt 22:29 – angels do not marry therefore how can they marry human beings.

Main idea of Gen 6:1-12 is that the human race had been so corrupted.

Nephilim – big giants,

Gen 6:5 – Holiness of God and is angry at sin. He sees the heart and the thoughts of men.

How is your thought life? Do you think well of people?

Gen 6:6 – God is grieved when we sin. Parents, anguish when our children go astray.

Ps 78:40 – Rebelled and grieved him and pained the Holy One.

- Do not grieve the Holy spirit. Grieving only takes place when you love

someone. No relationship with you, you don’t really care.

Gen 6:7 – God is sorry – does not mean God made mistake. The Bible uses human

language to show us the heart of God. God was grieved.

Gen 6:13 – There was so much violence, corruption – word for rotten meat. Means

decadence, decay. The moral fiber of society at that time was gone. It was so morally decadent. Sin is no longer an issue.

We don’t judge people because we are equally sinful but as our hearts are lifted a higher, we are made sensitive to God

Gen 6:3 – God made a decision. God is patient but there is a time when reckoning comes.

Biblical faith is only appreciated if we understand the background during Noah’s time. The background was evil and corrupt. It is like that today. Violence corrupts. What has happened to our society?

Economics has nothing to with it. Even in places where there are rich, there are still a lot of evil men.

Heb 11:6 –What can we learn from the book of Genesis in terms of life examples of

Noah?

God is a rewarded. Things not seen – flood/rain.

  1. Biblical faith has as it foundation the Word of God.
  2. It is not based on feelings or human opinion.
  3. Faith will result in obedience

It is not feelings or opinions of men but on the word of God.

Gen 6:9-22 – Imagine you are Noah. God tells you the worse news. I am going to destroy

this world. Application: there are many things in the bible that we don't understand. In the time of Noah, there was no flood yet; there was no rain yet.

Gen 2:5 - Had not sent rain upon the earth

Gen 9:11-13 – no rainbow

Imagine you are Noah and God tells you I am sending a flood and you are to build an ark. Okay to build an ark if it s only 5 fee long. Do you know how big the ark was?

Noah was to build this thing. How long would it take him? When your family asks. Why? Because God said so. What God says may not always make sense humanly. Every person has his or her own sets of belief. As you study the Bible be willing to set aside your own belief system.

Faith always has an object, and the object must be reliable, trustworthy.

Great faith n a parachute that does not open. He died because it was based con wrong object.

Canadian lake man had faith that the ice would hold him. He fell, yet another slipped on smoothing

Biblical faith on Word of God.

Rom10:17 – Faith comes from hearing. Religious man was hoping he would go to

heaven, sacrificed everything.

Rom 10:17 – You will never have security about what you believe in unless it is based on

the bible.

Choose to believe in the Word of god. Logic of trying out stuff, choice on following human opinion.

July 17, 1996, as of now, our children are still following, no guarantee

Gen 6 – 2nd thing – biblical faith results in obedience.

To believe and not to do is not to believe.

Gen 6:22 – Noah did according to all that God had commanded him.

Gen 6:7 – what did God ask Noah to do?

Animals – people started to make fun of Noah.

Imagine everyday is watching you. No rain, no flood, building for a 100 years. Animals. Scientifically 300 kinds of dog all came from 1 dog. Noah here comes the tiger. Everybody is looking at you.

Newspaper next day – laughing stock.

When you are a child of God, people will laugh at you. Bible tells us when we follow God everything will be easy. If you are convinced that the word of God is true, he would obey.

What if there was no rain.

Christians think what happens when I give up this person

God says, "Delight yourself in the Lord and I will give you the desires of your heart.

Rom 9:33 -Promise that he who believes in me will not be disappointed.

  1. True faith will persevere

Gen 7:6 – Noah was 600 years when flood came

Gen 5:33 – Noah was 500 years

Gen 6:3

Gen 6:10

Gen 6:13 around 500 years old

Gen 7:6 – Noah was 600- years old

Gen 7:6 - How did the water come? After 7 days

Gen 7:11 - all the foundations of the great deep, volcani9c water

From the earth and from the heavens

Gen 7:120-13- how many entered the ark? 8

Gen 7:14-16 – the Lord closed the door

There will come a time when God will close the door to salvation.

Noah preached 100 years.

2 Pet 2:5 - While Noah was building the ark, what was h doing?

A preacher of righteousness. He was preaching. What were the people doing?

1 Pet 3:19-20 – The Bible tells us Jesus went back to the Spirit during Noah’s time.

Biblical faith will persevere. It will not give up quickly. What keeps us going? The grace of God.

Gen 7:16 – Why did God close the door and in Noah?

I can just imagine when the water came, people were knocking. When God closes the door. What is the lesson of the story of Noah?

Faith of Noah was based on the word of god.

It was based on obedience. To believe and not to obey is not to believe.

Faith will persevere.

Faith will be rewarded.

How was he rewarded? His entire family as saved. We will experience the promises of God. What can we learn about God? God is holy; god’s patience can never be abuse. God will give us time but we do not know when our time will be up. We do not know when our time will be finished.

Rom 2:4 – Why is God patient with us?

God kept giving them opportunities to repent. Kindness of God. Brings us to repentance. God is merciful.

Rom 2:5 – Storing up wrath. How do you store up wrath? Stubborn, unrepentant storing

up wrath. Story of Noah tells us there will be a time of judgement when God will punish sin. We do not know when.

Gen 7:18 - If you approach geology from a universal point of view, you can explain why

in Alaska you have tigers, big animals with ________ in their stomach, somehow frozen instantaneously. The water came, they died the earth’s temperatures changed. If you do not look at this from a biblical point of view you cannot explain many things. Scientists are at a loss. They cannot explain the Grand Canyon.

Gen 7:21 – Big butterflies in Alaska. Where do butterflies and dragonflies live?

In Alaska, they have seen these insects that can only survive in the tropics. During the time of Noah, a thick layer of water vapor surrounded the earth; radioactive rays that cause cancer did not penetrate the earth. People lived longer. Animals are bigger; they were healthier, giant dragonflies, footsteps of dinosaurs. Scientific teaches dinosaurs are 200 M before man (now extinct) in a Texas river, footsteps of the din and man bedside the footprints of man. They lived side by side with the dinosaurs. The teaching of the scientific world is that they are extinct and they existed 250 million years before mankind.

Gen 8:1-4 – Mt. Ararat – where is Mt. Ararat? In the Sierra Madres. Ararat is in turkey.

There was a French explorer named Fernan Navar. He climbed the mountain of Ararat and saw with his own eyes the ark. He got a piece of wood and brought it down. He sent it to the different scientific institutes for testing. Significance of Navar. He saw the arc with his own eyes. What was the significance of his bringing down the wood from the ark down? In the mountain of Ararat, for 300 miles there are no forests, but when this guy climbed up to 13,000 feet, he saw the shape of a big box. The shape of Noah’s ark is rectangular. It is the most stable design of any ship. In fact, during World War II, USS battleship was designed after Noah’s ark. Length is 6 times longer than the width and that is the design and it is so stable that even a hurricane will not tilt it over.

The kind of wood was in the area of Mr. Ararat, even Turkey. What kind of wood was used? Gopher.

We need to understand the meaning of the word "tree line". In any mountain, you have "tree line". When you reach a certain height you have only snow, there are no trees or plants that can survive. This is called the "tree line".

In the Philippines, our mountains are not high enough, so we have trees up to the top of the mountain. In most mountains that are higher than 8,000 ft., there are no more trees.

They saw lumber and this box of wood on top of the mountain where no tree or shrub is supposed to be. Noah’s Ark is not a figment of imagination.

Chinese word for boat is an ark with 8 people. Are you telling me that this is a coincidence? When you look the culture of China, which is 5,000 yeas of history, there are many characters that will reflect the book of Genesis. The word creation is almost like Genesis 2. The word for the Devil, a deceiver inside the garden, Chinese word for demons. There are a lot of similarities. Word for arc – 8 people were saved. The Assyrian and Babylonian culture/writings – story about the universal flood. This story is found in Palawan, Mindanao, around the world, they have stories that the universal ark.

Matt 24:36-38 – Just like in the days of Noah, everyone did not believe, only a remnant

so it is like today.

Matt 7:13-14 – Enter by the narrow gate. What were the people doing during the days of?

Noah? Eating, drinking, and marrying. What are people doing today? Eating, drinking and marrying. It’s alright to have good times. But good times must be without regrets.

2 Peter 3:6-7,10 – Why would God destroy the heavens and the earth during Noah’s

time? Why will he destroy this earth? Because of sin. How will he destroy it? Not with water and not with fire.

2 Peter 3:11-12 - Elements will melt with intense heat. Element – atom. Nuclear fusion – burnt up,

If you have the wrong perspective – "palakihan ng abo".

Every time I study the Bible, my perspective always gets refocused and straightened. This world is in my home. God is going to destroy this earth.

Application:

  1. Are you in the ark of God or not? Are you in Jesus, the ark? Or are you outside God. God cannot force you to get into the ark. Just like in the days of Noah, there will be people who want to enter the ark. Too late, so it shall be during the 2nd coming.

When Jesus comes again, it may be too late for some people. Perhaps God is speaking to you tonight. Say a prayer, I don’t understand everything but I do understand one thing. By faith I am willing to repent, I am willing to change. I would like to enter the ark of Christ.

Real faith is based on the promises of God. It will result in action. Biblical faith is willingness to change. You sincerely believe there will a day of judgement.
