Chapter 1-2 – Creation

Chapter 3-5 – fall

Chapter 6-9 – Flood

Chapter 10-11 – Nations

Genesis Chapter 12 - Beginning of God’s Chosen People

Chapter 12-24 – Abraham

Or

Chapters 1-11 – 4 Great Events

Chapters 12-24 – 4 Great People

In terms of understanding the outline of the book you will be amazed that chapters 1 to 11 covers only 20% of Genesis, but it is around 2,000 years. From chapter 12 to the end of Genesis, 80% of Genesis it is only a span of 286 years. And this talks about Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph. Many of us don’t know the significance of these people.

Tonight’s Lesson

Genesis 3

Why is the there so much suffering and pain?

Gen 3:1 – When you come to chapter 3 you are introduced to anew character, Satan.

God created Satan perfect, privileged and exalted position

Isa 14:12 – What happened to him?

Satan is also called Devil – Diasblos or Divider

Adversary, Accuser of the Brethren

Man who came to Peter who killed many people asked, "Will the Lord still

accept me?

Isa 1:18 – though your sins may be scarlet

Rev 12:9 – He deceives the "whole world"

We need to know our enemy! If we don’t know who our enemy is and the

Strategies he does we can be wiped out.

When problems come, don’t totally eliminate the concept that Satan is in the

picture, thrown down to the earth and his angels.

Eph 6:11-12 – warfare going on. The battle is in the mind

2 Cor 10:3 – Satan will never declare a cease-fire. We don’t war according the flesh. We

don’t fight Satan on our own power

2 Cor 10:5 – Taking every thought captive. Don’t let yourself become under control of

wrong information.

Rev 12:12 – Satan is working overtime

What are the strategies of Satan

1. Doubt God’s Word

Gen 3:1 – Did God really say that? Is that really in the bible?

2. Doubt the consequences of your choices.

Gen 3:2 - You surely will not die.

Num 32:23 - Be sure, your sin will find you out.

3. Doubt God’s goodness

Gen 3:5 – Satan wants you to doubt God’s character. Makes you think that God is

"depriving you of something good"

Are you convinced that God has your best interest at heart?

Focus on what we don’t have rather than what we have. Sin of grumbling and discontentment. Are you a grumbler? Count your blessings.

Gen 2 - provision of God

Gen 3 – lahat bawal except one. God is not like that. All you can eat except 1.

Will you follow me and submit to my authority? Will you listen to the voice of God for my happiness?

Gen 3:6 – Deprived of my happiness is the voice of Satan.

Satan makes us believe that our way is better than God’s way.

Consequences of sin

What did Eve do? Dinamay si Adam. Sin is not an isolated act. It will affect others. Adam’s sin affected the entire universe.

Gen 3:8 – Eyes were opened because they wanted their eyes to be opened.

Is the pleasure lasting or temporal? Satan tells you half-truths.

Gen 3:8-9 – before the fall of man, was here any negative emotion?

Gen 3:11 – they hid

Gen 3:13 – when people come for counsel, do they blame others? "Yet, but"

We refuse to take personal responsibility. Stop blaming others before God and humble yourself.

Gen 3:14 – cursed are you. Snake was cured. Snakes as a rule, no one likes.

Generally we shudder.

Gen 3:15 – first prophetic utterance about the Messiah

Gen 3:16 – woman’s curse – your desire

Hebrew word found in Gen 4. It is not "like your husband" because that is

not a curse.

If you like your husband, that is not a curse. Desire in Gen 4:7 – desire to "master". Sin wants to control you and manipulate.

Curse of the man – curse is the ground because of you. Is this world cursed?

The Bible does not apologize for cursing this world. Because of sin. Heaven wants to beep.

Curse of the man – curse is the ground because of you. Is this world cursed?

The Bible does not apologize for cursing this world. Because of sin. Heaven wants t o be experienced now, but w suffer

Rom 8:18 – creation subjected to futility.

Rom 8:18 – sufferings of this present time, set your heart on the future glory.

Gen 3:20-22 – why did God send them out of the garden? If they ate of the fruit of

the tree of life, they would have lived forever. They would be cursed forever in that sinful condition. Can you image a Hitler than never died? A Mao Tse Tung never dying? In God’s mercy he gave us death sentence because if you will die. All sinful people living forever? Miserable. Curse - Separation from God. End in a positive note.

Gen 3:15 – prophecy

You - devil

Your seed

Seed of the woman – Jesus

Gal 4

He shall crush? Satan ion the head, mortal blow.

They will bruise him on the heel.

Not a lady who will step on the serpent.

1 John 3:10 – Who will destroy the works of Satan?

Anyone who does not practice righteousness

1 John 3:8 – practices work of the devil to make us sin.

Heb 2:14 – Jesus became flesh and blood for what purpose? So that he can suffer and die.

If God did not become man, he could not die to pay for the penalty of our sins. For what purpose? To render powerless he who had power over death. So the power of death in the hands of Satan.

When Christ came, he delivered all those enslaved to fear of death. Are you afraid of dying?

Rev 20 – What will happen to Satan?

Satan wants us to follow him through deception. How do you know if something is of Satan? Anything that is no in the bible is from Satan.

Rev 20:7-15 – Are your names recorded in the book of life?

Rev 21:3 – He shall wipe away every tear. We long for that day – a new heaven and a

new earth reserved for people whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

Close in prayer.
