Genesis-01

THE BOOK OF GENESIS

Lesson 1

Why do we need to study the book of Genesis?

Jer 9:23-24 – What does the bible warn us about?

What do most people brag about in this world?

Self-sufficient.

What is God telling us? If we must pursue something, what must we pursue?

Jer 9:23-24 – None of the above will be worth boasting of except "knowing and

understanding God"

How many here know President Ramos? We may "know about" President

Ramos but you may not "know him personally". We know about God but

how many of us really know Him personally.

Know – experiential knowledge – intimacy.

The secret of the Christian life is understanding? When can we do this? When we know God.

What is the difference between understanding and knowing God?

Do you understand the ways of God? Do you know why he does certain things? Do you understand the concerns of the heart of God? You cannot understand until you know him intimately and we cannot know him unless we go back to the Bible.

Genesis is a book of beginnings, it ells of the creation, and of origins, in particular o the Hebrew people

Genesis

Outline

Genesis 1-2 Creation

Genesis 2-5 Adam and Eve

Genesis 6-11 Noah

Genesis 12-25 Abraham

Genesis 25-28 Isaac

Genesis 28-36 Jacob

Genesis 36-50 Joseph

In between chapter’s’ 25:5 – we have the story of Judah

Illustration: in the December 18, 1995 issue of the Time Magazine, we have an article entitled, "How Reliable is the bible?" is the Bible fact or fiction? Seems like the author initially may be attacking the bible but upon closer scrutiny you realize that he is trying to establish the Bible’s credibility.

Someone faxed Peter this message that was to be sent to the Editor of Time Magazine.

"Your article on archeological findings contrary to the intended and popular perception actually proves that the Bible records are true and believable."

What Time Magazine says is, from the year 2000 BC up to 300A.D. All the biblical accounts are accurate. Why? Mainly because they have archaeological findings to support it. But on some books, like Exodus, there seems to be no evidence available.

Now we need to understand why we do not have archeological support after the book of Exodus. The people were wandering in the wilderness for 40 years. God disciplined them for their unbelief. Of course, they could not find anything in the desert simply because the Jews built nothing, no temples, buildings, etc.

Although there are other books that cannot be substantiated with archeological support, the absence of any archeological findings does not disprove the bible.

Every time we find something about Bible (Samson, Isaiah, etc.), and just because we do not find something that does not prove that the Bible is incorrect.

Gen 1:1-31 – Are you a creationist or an evolutionist? Or a Christian evolutionist?

A serious student of the Bible will not accept that belief. A choice has to be made

Gen 1:1 – Before there was time, there was God. In the beginning, - space had to be created.

Gen 1:2 – earth was formless and void.

Gen 1:5 - Day 1 – God created light

Day 2 – God created sky

Day 2 – God moved water into 2 parts, over the earth, like a canopy and on the earth. The earth was surrounded by water.

Gen 7:7 – Canopy served as protection. Water acts like a filter. The radiation, ultraviolet rays was prevented from entering the earth, cannot harm people.

This effect produced giant butterflies, dragonflies (3 feet) in the North Pole

Gen 1:6 – Day 3 - land vegetation.

Gen 1:4 – how can the mother (universe, where the earth came from) be younger than the daughter (earth). The sun, moon, and stars were created for a purpose.

Gen 1:13-16 – to give light, God created the sun, moon and stars for us.

Gen 1:15 – greater light and the lesser light

He made it for mankind.

Gen 1:20 – notice the phrase "after their own kind" according to their own kind"

Gen 1:26-28 – created man in our own image.

Day 7 – God rested.

To understand the importance of the book of Genesis, what is the importance of the word "geochronology"? Geo – earth, chronology – analysis of time.

I.e. analysis or study of how old the earth is.

All of them are based on the obvious reality that natural processes occurring steadily through time produce cumulative and after measurable results. These studies revealed maximum upper limits for the time these processes have continues. Geochronology is a way to measure how old the earth is and how old mankind is.

There have been 17 approaches but all of these have one principle. All of these are based on the obvious reality that natural processes occurring steadily through time produce cumulative and after measurable results.

Gradualism – it is the evolutionary concept that present strong practices make the mountains and landform.

For example – Grand Canyon, evolutionists believe it just came into being.

Creationists believe that a large-scale catastrophe happened in the world that caused it.

In the world, there will always be 2 worldviews

  1. evolution
  2. creation

Both are theories as far as science is concerned. A person needs to decide what to believe in. after we look at the facts; we will realize it takes more oafish to believe in evolution than creation.

Let us now go to the example of geologic clocks that are ridiculously true and yet people don’t understand how come they believe in evolution

Interplanetary dust

Every year cosmic dust falls into the heart at a constant rate. We can therefore measure the age of the earth by how much cosmic dust is accumulated. According to evolutionists since the earth is 3-5 billion years old, the cosmic dust on the earth would be hundreds of feet on the planet earth.

Scientists assert we don’t see the hundreds of fee of cosmic dust because it gets blown into the sea by wind and rain. However, in the moon, there are no seas. By computing this, they said the cosmic dust must be at least 54 feet deep to make evolution true.

What happened when man landed on the moon? The cosmic dust reached only a few inches. The scientists were expecting the astronauts to sink into the cosmic dust. but when they stepped on the moon, the cosmic dust was only a few inches deep. This supports the claim that the earth is only a few thousand years old.

Helium clock

Helium is a gas used for balloons. Every year, uranium gives off helium. It is released in the atmosphere. This can also be computed. Based on the computation on the amount of helium on the atmosphere, our earth cannot even be fore 6million years old.

The sun is shrinking

It is believed that our sun shrinks 1/10 of 1% per 100 years. Therefore, every 1,000 years, it shrinks 1%. By implication, if the earth is only 100 Million yes, how.

20 million years ago, fi the earth is so near the sun, nothing will survive.

Important concept

  1. 1st Law of Thermodynamics
  2. The first law of thermodynamics states that energy is conserved. All existing practices of nature merely change from one form to another. In nature, energy is neither created nor destroyed.

  3. 2nd Law of Thermodynamics

Energy dissipates. As practices in nature occur, the total energy reservoir is reduced to simpler form with a consequence increase in what ______________________.

As energy is used, it becomes less available for further use.

Example: When you spin a top, it will continue to spin for about 20 seco0jds. When the top loses the strength, the 2nd law of thermodynamics, the law of entropy takes over, the law of thermodynamics. What happens to the top? It is no more predictable. It goes haywire. Evolution goes against the 2nd law of Thermodynamics.

Evolution says, that as things grow older, they get better. Id this true? As we age do we get better? Or do we decay, old, get worse?

For evolution to work you need to go against many acceptance scientific facts.

The alternative at stake. The following is just the beginning of what could be listed of the choices one has to make then we accept one side over the other.

Ps 90:1-2 –

Ps 33:6,9 - How did creation come about? God simply spoke and it came into being!

Creation - God is the creator

Evolution - spontaneous generation

Whatever view you will adopt will influence how you live.

Evolution says non-life produces life.

Creation says there is a purpose to design.

God says there is a purpose.

Evolution says everything is random, accidental.

Creation shows intricate order.

Example: Plant seed. Up to this day, no scientists can produce seeds that give life. A simple process the seed is so complicated. In one seed, when it is planted roots begin to grow, first, branches, etc, stocking water, blooming flowers. Trees become great oak trees.

We cannot believe that all these are only a result of accidental random.

Evolution says world gets better

Creation shows world is winding down.
