Salvation Series-04
RIGHTEOUSNESS THAT SAVES
Text: Romans 10:1-4, 9-13
Rom 10:1 - What was Paul’s earnest desire for his people?
He desired their salvation.
The Jews were known for their devotion to God.
Rom 3:1-2 - It was through the Jews that the Bible was preserved and
handed down through generations. God entrusted his oracles
to the nation of Israel. (See Acts 7:38)
Rom 10:1 - The Jews’ zeal for God was widely known
Luke 3:8 - They were known as "children of Abraham"
But all these did not mean a thing.
YOU CAN BE RELIGIOUS YET LOST AND BOUND FOR HELL
Rom 10:2 - Although the Jews were known for their zeal, Paul says it
profited them nothing.
Is there any group of people you know today known for their
zeal for God? Mormons, Iglesia ni Cristo, etc. ?
- What do you think the phrase "but not in accordance to knowledge"
means?
- Paul was revealing that their knowledge was not according to
the Word of God. Their salvation was not in accordance to
God’s way - faith in Christ alone. They insisted that the way to
heaven was through following the Jewish laws, 10 Commandments.
Luke 3:8 - What did the Jews boast of? Their religious heritage. They thought
it was their ticket to heaven.
WE ARE LOST BECAUSE WE REFUSE TO ACCEPT GOD’S PRESCRIBED WAY TO HEAVEN.
Rom 3:23 - What is man’s real problem? Sin
Rom 10:3 - How does man try to solve this sin problem?
This is what Paul means when he says, "not knowing about God’s
righteousness, and seeking to establish their own."
They thought this was what they needed to do to solve their sin problem. But God showed them and us, today, none of these are acceptable.
Eccl 7:20 - Doing all the good things, giving to charity is good but what do we
do when we sin? Good deeds are not payment for sin.
Rom 6:23 - What is the only acceptable payment for sin? Death
Rev 21:8 - What kind of death? 2nd death - eternal separation from God.
We either pay ourselves - eternal separation from God - or accept the gift that
Jesus offers - his own death on our behalf.
WHAT IS THE ONLY SOLUTION TO SIN PROBLEM?
Rom 5:5-8 - Christ paid the penalty - death on the cross
Rom 10:4 - Paul explains - Christ is the end of the law.
This means there is nothing else you can add to what Christ did on
the cross. It is finished, completed, sufficient, the end.
He has done it all. See Romans 3:28
WHAT IS OUR RESPONSE?
Rom 10:9 - The solution is so simple, people stumble over it.
Faith in Christ and confidence on his finished work on Calvary.
Genuine Saving Faith is simply acknowledging that there is nothing you can do
to save yourself, that there is no one else you can trust, except Christ, for salvation.
It is trusting Him alone, to save you.
That word ALONE is very significant because
it spells the difference between real and false salvation.
Genuine salvation puts our trust in Christ ONLY and no one else.
Rom 10:13 - Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.
Rev 3:20 - Jesus is knocking at the door of your heart - what is your response?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I now understand the full meaning of your death on the cross. Lord, I acknowledge
that I can do absolutely nothing to save myself. I need you.
Lord Jesus, I now open the door of my heart and ask you to come in and save me. I may not understand everything yet, but one thing is certain, I believe you died for my sins and I accept your wonderful gift of salvation.
Please help me, Lord, to become the person you want me to be. Give me the desire to know more about you through your Word, the Bible.
Thank you for coming into my life and saving me.
Amen.
Col 2:13-14 - What happened when you, by faith, asked Christ into your heart?
He forgave you all your transgressions.
1 John 5:11-13 - You may know for sure that you have eternal life.
