Salvation Series-02

THE WIDE AND NARROW WAY

Illustration on the need to Warn:

Young girl who got out of her car during the San Francisco earthquake and warned oncoming vehicles about collapse of Bay Bridge.

Personal experience of friend in PISO Bank who warned me ahead of time about bank’s closure. I was able to withdraw all my money.

Did you know that the Bible abounds in warnings?

Prov 14:12 - What warning is given in both these verses?

Prov 16:25 - What is the consequence of not heeding warning? Death

Jer 6:10 - The world is full of people who ignore the Word of God.

What question does He pose on us today? Will you listen?

The Wide and the Narrow Way

Matt 7:13 - Why do you think God takes the time to warn us?

How many ways are being spoken of by Jesus? Only 2 ways

Describe each way. Where does each way lead to?

The Bible speaks about God’s love again and again. Because of His love He desires for us to be saved.

1 Tim 2:4 } Who desires us to be saved? Why do we need to be saved?

2 Pet 3:9 }

There is a problem that separates each man from God.

Rom 3:23 } What separates us from God? Sin

Rom 3:10 }

The wrong payment

Man tries to solve the problem through several means: Ask the group to give their thoughts on how to pay for sin/their concepts on how to go to heaven.

Good works - Eph 2:8-9, Titus 3:5, Rom 4:1-3,

Obeying 10 Commandments or any commandment - Rom 3:28, Gal 2:16

Praying - Isa 59:1-2

Sacrifice - Ps 40:6

Think of the best person you know, one who is really good, loving, caring, etc.

Eccl 7:20 - there is no one who is consistently good and does not sin.

- Sin needs to be paid for:

James 2:10 - The gravity of sin is such that one sin is equated with violating all

the laws.

Gen 2:16-17 - one sin led to death

Gen 2:24 - physical and spiritual separation from God

Can anyone make it then? Absolutely no one!

The issue of your salvation is the issue of sin. Who will pay for your sin?

The only one who can provide payment is someone without sin.

You cannot because you have sinned (Rom 3:23)

No one else can because everyone has sinned (Rom 3:10)

If your sin is not paid for, there are consequences.

Rev 21:8/Rev 20:14 - eternal separation from God. No one is exempt

That’s why the good news is that Jesus paid it all!

2 Cor 5:21 } Only Jesus was qualified to pay for sin

1 Pet 2:22 } because only He had no sin!

Rom 3:10 - says there is none righteous - translation - no one is good enough

to merit heaven!

Jesus provided the right payment

The barrier to God is sin. Sin needs to be dealt with. Someone needs to pay for it.

Rom 5:5-8 - Who died and paid the penalty for our sins? Only Christ.

John 14:6 - Only Christ provided the way to God.

Acts 4:12 - There is no other solution. The only name God provided by which

we are saved was JESUS CHRIST.

1 Tim 2:5 - Jesus is the ONLY MEDIATOR.

We need only trust in God’s solution to be saved - JESUS CHRIST!

John 1:12 - Believe and receive Jesus Christ.

(Believing requires accepting all that the Bible says about Christ)

(Receiving means acknowledging you need Christ for salvation)

John 3:16 - What do we need to do? Believe

John 3:36 - What happens to someone who does not? Wrath of God remains in him

Prayer of acceptance

Lord Jesus, I understand the seriousness of sin and its consequences. Thank you Lord for paying for my sin, for bringing me to the point of understanding that I can do absolutely nothing to pay for my sin.

I acknowledge my sin and I accept your wonderful gift of salvation. I ask you to come into my heart and save me. I may not understand everything there is in the Bible, but one thing I know now, you died in my place and saved me from hell.

Come into my heart, be my Saviour and be my Lord. Give me the desire to know more about you through your Word, Amen.
