Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
2 Timothy 2:22
An unexpected proposal came to a man. He was on his own in China for a business trip and his wife was not with him. Two gorgeous college Chinese girls approached him and asked if he could teach them English over drinks. Tempted, it entered his mind to consider the offer. As they were crossing the street, the pedestrian light kept blinking green. God reminded the man that he could flee from the temptation. And so he did. As the man walked away, the two girls scoffed at him, “You’re not a real man.”
The world we live in today thinks that we can do whatever we want as long as it will make us happy. We can get wasted. We can have casual sex. Living in with someone of the opposite or same sex is just culture. There is nothing wrong anymore. “Don’t judge me,” they say. But the satisfied life does not rest on the pleasures of this world. It is found in God.
We turn God into a cosmic kill joy thinking that living for Him is frigid. The holy life is hot. It is what can give us the greatest pleasure, the greatest happiness, the greatest peace, because an intimate relationship with God is man’s greatest need.
Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines. He grabbed everything his eyes desired but he was still unhappy. He said, “Everything is meaningless a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 2:11).
God is not boring. He is the inventor of pleasure, of intimacy, of sex, of love. Flee immorality and its temptation. Pursue satisfaction within God’s bounds so that you may find yourself at the center of His will, complete and fulfilling His purpose. Everything else is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.
Change my heart, O God
Fill me with Your Spirit
Take away desires that drive me
far from you
Whisper from Your Word
Help my heart to hear it
Fill me with desire
to follow You
-Change My Heart, O God
