Shepherd’s Staff is a volunteer team of elderly Christians aged 55 years and above. They share the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ with fellow senior citizens and disciple them to become more Christ-like.
The team ministers to fellow senior men and women by helping them meet their spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional needs. This is done through Bible studies, small group meetings, support groups, retreats and seminars, prayer and fasting, medical missions, and livelihood projects.

In 2003, Pastor Bert Vila and Mr. Fidel Chua noticed a number of elderly people who came to worship but didn’t mingle, not even with people their age. Further checking revealed that few of them attended even the basic Bible classes or belonged to small groups.
Considering how younger people would pray for their elders that they might become Christians, Pastor Vila and Mr. Chua felt the need to organize a weekly Bible study and fellowship group for the elderly men. So, they invited the elderly men to attend special sessions every Saturday at 2 P.M.
Thirteen men attended the first meeting. Six of them brought along their wives. The wives were encouraged to join the Golden Ladies, but they wanted to spend every remaining second in their lives with their husbands. The initially all elderly-male group then became a mixed group.
Inspired by Psalm 23:4, the original 13 members named their group Shepherd’s Staff. The Shepherd is the keeper of the sheep, and the Staff is a walking stick for support and comfort.
A thousand D-Groups of elderly empowered men and women within Christ’s Commission Fellowship: actively sharing the Gospel and discipling others to Christ-likeness, while empowering them to lead purposeful, productive, and meaningful lives.
To harness the wisdom, experience and knowledge of the elderly into productive and beneficial pursuits by meeting their individual needs through Biblical value transformation, livelihood projects and socially relevant activities.
Ike Punsalang now handles Shepherd’s Staff. This year, the thrust has been for the elderly to bear fruit. There are now over 100 active members meeting in three different CCF branches.

Shepherd of my soul,
I give you full control;
Wherever you may lead,
I will follow.
I have made a choice
To listen for your voice;
Wherever you may lead,
I will go.
Be it in a quiet pasture,
Or by a gentle stream,
The shepherd of my soul
Is by my side.
Should I face a mighty mountain
Or a valley dark and deep,
The shepherd of my soul
Will be my guide.
