If you think that entering the golden years means slowing down, wait until you meet our Golden Ladies. Begun in 1991, this group of almost 100 empowered women from the ages of 40 to 89 – most of whom are retired – are as busy as our singles. They devote their time to learning, meeting with friends, and enriching their spiritual lives. Despite the diverse age group, one passion unifies them all: their love for God and their mission to evangelize.

Aside from weekly D-Group and D12 sessions, the Golden Ladies hold an event called Gold Links at least twice a year. It’s an activity that gathers all D-Groups and respective members so they can get to know each other better.

At the latest Gold Links, held last March, members from different groups were placed in teams of three. Each team had fellowship and bonding with each other the whole day. They developed new friendships as they shared each other’s lives and became each other’s prayer partners. This has significantly bonded the group.

Last April, the ladies went to La Mesa Ecopark to spend a Day in Prayer, studying the healing Word of God, offering thanksgiving and praise for God’s bountiful blessings, and praying for special concerns and for each other.

Being in their golden years does not deter the ministry members from learning. The D12 and each D-Group have already finished the Level 1 Certificate Program of the Global Leadership Center. In the works also are special Galatians and Ephesians classes to be held exclusively for the Golden Ladies. Many ministry members plan to take the GLC’s next-level classes.

The Golden Ladies are also active in the Welcome Ministry, serving in the registration team for worship services every Sunday.

Definitely not a group to overlook fun in its agenda, the Golden Ladies recently held Encounter 1, a weekend getaway. They all trooped to Tagaytay to rediscover an intimate relationship with God. This event culminated in the baptism of ten new participants.

Upcoming events of the Golden Ladies include a Gold Links activity this September, to commemorate their anniversary, and a Christmas Party in December.

In the monotony and tediousness of our daily lives, it is inspiring to find such joy and excitement in a group, more so in a group of ladies in their golden years. The word “golden” is such a fitting adjective, as gold signifies wealth, and I don’t know how much wealthier one can get when one devotes their time to rejoicing in God’s awesome glory.
